Sorry to be behind in updates. Ted was returned to SICU on - TopicsExpress

Sorry to be behind in updates. Ted was returned to SICU on Saturday morning and we had to clear the room. Doctors wanted closer monitoring over the weekend than floor could provide because of liver numbers and issues with nutrition. On Monday morning, I received a call that because of breathing issues, he had to be reintubated. A second call indicated he would be going back to OR asap for a procedure called diversion, which none of us had ever heard of. Some refer to it as divergent and it basically means a concentrated effort to divert something. In Teds case, it is the esophagical/gut track. Surgeons found the leak in the former surgery and literally cut it off and sewed it up. He has a new drainage tube in upper left shoulder and the Jtube in right side, both functioning well. The team also took a liver biopsy, checked all other surgery, and closed. Ted has two parts to his track system where well people have one. Dr. Beckles removed the dreaded and hated nose tube and opted for the shoulder one. He is in second medically induced coma and will be for 3/4 days to begin the massive healing process. Heart held up. Looked better when he came out of the 6 hour and 20 minute surgery than he did going in to me. Two major issues remain - liver needs to be well and nutrition needs to get in his body and help heal him. His strength and will are remarkable. He has withstood 23 hours and 20 minutes of actual surgery since July 14th and is still fighting. Please keep praying. Our Anchor holds and I believe well be in one of the boats fishing the Gulf soon. My heartfelt thanks to Kathie Poulter for sitting with me during the hard waiting and to Laurie Pennington Likos for rescuing us.
