Sorry to burst everyones (protective) bubble, but UVerse and - TopicsExpress

Sorry to burst everyones (protective) bubble, but UVerse and Xfinity arent actually . . . well . . . things. Both new, faster internet services use the same outdated phone and cable lines established in the 60s-80s. They cant push out any faster internet than they did 5 years ago. It bothers me when I hear people talk about faster, newer technology. Macroconglomerates like Comcast and AT&T dont see higher revenues by invested in newer technologies (costing a few billion dollars), so they just re-brand their old internet services. In fact, if you were to ping the service of 5 years ago to todays service, youd see a drop between 2% and 15% in speed, but prices have more than tripled. These large companies are lobbying to prevent cities and municipalities from creating their own broadband internet systems based on actual newer technologies (fibre optics can push a few gigabytes of info without skipping a beat [as compared to a few megabytes that the current companies offer {a gigabyte = 1,208 megabytes}]) because, of course, they lose profits. The US is not even in the top ten list of countries with internet, in terms of speed, and were not in the top 5 when it comes to internet availability to its citizens. When major companies throttle the communication systems of the entire nation, you get problems like SOPA and the siphoning controversy with Netflix. Dont. Be. Fooled.
