Sorry to harp on it, but, well … not sorry. Again: turnout in the last midterm election was just over 40 percent. That’s 4 in 10. 2 in 5, if simplifying fractions is your thing. So. Pearl Jam has five members. They all write songs. Do some of them suck? Yep. Big time. But some are really, really awesome. That’s democracy! Imagine if only Matt Cameron and Mike McCready were the songwriters and decision makers. Sure, you get “Given to Fly” and “The Fixer” and some other jams … but no “Corduroy,” no “Black,” no “Off He Goes,” no “Brain of J,” no “Nothingman.” Also: nobody would step in to say, “Hey Mike, that’s enough of the wah wah pedal. It’s 2014, for God’s sake.” Again, democracy. So vote. Then listen to a good song. Your day will be awesome.
