Sorry to rant, just had a bit of a bad experience. I was asked by SA Weddings which is a wedding suppliers website we advertise with, to write an article about wedding trends in cover-ups (capes, boleros etc) which I eagerly accepted. I was told that the article needed to 600 words which is great (I gave them 604 words) I also asked whether they needed me to supply photos, to which the answer was no. I duly mailed off the article and was then told that it was much too long and that they would only be using one paragraph of what I had written for the newsletter that it was written for but that the full article would be available online. When the newsletter came out, yes they did only use the one paragraph, but more importantly they used images from other suppliers under our name. This I find to be completely distasteful. 1) If you dont know how long a word count actually is, either check up with something existing or say something like something short, just a paragraph etc. as carefully crafting an article that isnt going to be used (and that I am not been paid for) is an enormous waste of a full day when I should have been doing clients work. 2) using another suppliers images to illustrate an article that is headed with my company name is incredibly unprofessional. Having had many issues with plagiarism, including recently, I take a very very hard line against incorrect accreditation, plus it gives a false view of what my company does. I understand that it seems silly to be complaint about a newsletter but this has been sitting with me for a few days and I am still livid. That newsletter is sent out to thousands of women around the country and it is very important to me to have my company viewed in the right light.
