Sorry we were kind of quiet last night, but there was a lot going on. They started Angel on high-dose steroids yesterday and are slowly weaning her down to a maintenance level. Our team of doctors, which now includes an endocrinologist, believes she has an adrenal insufficiency. Basically, this means that her body does not produce enough of the adrenal hormone cortisol, which maintains blood pressure and the bodys response to stress, among other things. We had this problem before her surgery, but they thought it was just when her body was under stress and only gave her steroids for a short time period. Now, they believe this will be an ongoing problem and she may end up having to take maintenance steroids for a while. The good news is that her BP has remained relatively stable since starting the steroids and her headaches are not nearly as severe. She has been fever-free since last night, and her ANC came up. Her platelets and H&H dropped, so she will be getting platelets today. Also, because she has been so sick, even with her counts starting to come up, her doctors want to keep her on IV antibiotics for possibly another week. She also will need to start her next week-long round of chemo when her counts are high enough, so we could be in the hospital for another two weeks. This was definitely not the news Angel wanted to hear, but we praise God that things look like they are improving. She still has pneumonia, and theyll keep an eye on that, but the antibiotics should clear it up. Please pray that this time in the hospital goes quickly. Shes already been in here a week, so another two weeks to her seems like a lifetime! Thank yall so much for the prayers, encouragement, love and support. We will definitely need more over the next couple of weeks. We love all of you! Kim and Angel Eaton
