Sorry you guys, but Robin Williams death has got me a little riled this evening. Heres an article relating to something thats bothered me since my brothers death 4 years ago. I do not consider myself a suicide survivor despite what the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (a great organization otherwise) and many other groups/people/places want to call me. I am no the one who struggled with crippling depression. I am not the one who struggled with the idea that the world would be better without me. Suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts, serious depression; all of these things are very real and a truly terrible struggle for people. Although there may be people who disagree and consider themselves suicide survivors after having lost a loved one to suicide, my personal feeling is that although I was left behind, left to grieve, left with unanswered questions and unresolved anger, I did not have to wade through the thick mud of thoughts telling me to end my life. The people who have trudged through that, and continue on, THEY are the survivors. I dont know what a good term for me is. I dont really feel like I need one. I grieve, thats all.
