Sort of odd this song was left off of Anthology 3. So, the Beatles wrote a ton of songs while they were in India. When they returned, they met at Georges rather modest home in Esher, and recorded a whole mess of demos. This song didnt get recorded for the White Album, and John shelved it so he could later rework it. It appeared as Jealous Guy on the Imagine album, and is one of his best solo songs. A lovely melody and the new lyrics served the song better. Despite the fact that they returned from India, refreshed, things quickly turned sour in the studio and much disharmony took place....with the White Album being a sort of solo project for each of the Beatles, and a reduction of true group work. George Martin wanted the White Album to be reduced to one disc. He was right. And it was a horrible decision not to put Hey Jude on the album rather than Johns experimental nonsense. And of course, Wild Honey Pie, which was pure crap. The Beatles would go out on a high note with their last album, Abbey Road, which also was a troublesome recording. The earlier Get Back tapes would be released as Let it Be, and helped to tarnish their reputation a bit, but it still boasted some great music, mostly Pauls Let It Be and Georges way under appreciated I Me Mine. And, for Let it Be, the album, the apple would appear red for the first time and as such, was ready to fall or be picked. The harvest was over. Harrison would produce the best of the solo albums, All Things Must Pass, with Johns Imagine coming in second. Various highlights of each Beatles career would make the Top Ten from then on out, but the Beatles magic would be relegated to history. When the Beatles were in top form, their individual chemistry was historic and no band has ever approached their heights. It is unlikely we will ever see their likes again.
