Together Soshana and Portia earned a MACH and an ADCH and evolved into a strong team competing at the national level and earning USDAA top ten placements. Since then, Soshana has trained and competed with 4 dogs (including Duncan, the #1 AKC Field Spaniel for 2009, and her young Border Collie, Glance) at the highest levels of the sport. Most recently, Soshana and Glance have been selected to represent the USA at the World Agility Open in Lignano, Italy this spring and are extremely honored to be part of the 2014 US Team. Soshana owes most of her knowledge and skill in this sport to the tutelage of Mary Ellen Barry and Rachel Sanders, who have shaped Soshanas handling and training style and philosophy. Soshana is fortunate to have worked with Jenn Crank, Linda Mecklenburg, Jen Pinder, Karen Holik, and Daisy Peel to build and maintain consistency in her handling, training, and teaching. Soshanas aussie, Pinch, and his struggles with jumping, led Soshana to Susan Salo. Soshana has worked with Susan numerous times, and incorporates Susans jumping work into her foundation training. Janita Leinonen and Jaakko Suoknuuti have been a huge influence. She is grateful to them all for their expertise and willingness to impart knowledge and affording her with the opportunity to develop her own unique style. Soshana is skilled at simplifying and effectively communicating complex handling maneuvers as well as explaining the theory and fundamentals behind the handling method. Soshana has been a teacher for most of her life. As a teenager she taught swimming, ballet, and horse camp. During college she taught aerobics and directed high school musicals. While employed by Pfizer, Inc., Soshana trained professionals in understanding 21CFR11 regulations, held workshops on how to use new software, and coached non-scientists in Good Laboratory Practices. Soshana is an avid student of the science of learning. She strives to promote a fun and healthy learning environment for all handlers and their dogs. She employs a motion-based handling system and advocates a dog-friendly, positive reinforcement training style. Soshana currently teaches at Paws N Effect in Hamden, CT, Criterion Agility in Middlefield, CT and Port Chester Obedience and Training Center in White Plains, NY. She is a popular seminar presenter in the Northeast.
