Soul Envy “Nothing is quite as satisfying as the failure of a friend,” Mark Twain Have you ever been secretly happy about hearing that a co-worker was turned down for a promotion? Your best friends perfect marriage fell apart, and somewhere deep down you feel happy about it, because now she can share in your loneliness. Are you envious that your meditation partner appears to be more spiritual than you? These feelings are called shadows that are in need of communion. Getting a rush from some else’s ruination is soul envy. Soul envy is a belief that there isn’t enough love, abundance and all the goodness and grace that life has to offer to go around. There are behaviors and beliefs in all of us that we just don’t want to recognize as something we created and occasionally feed on. They clog our internal wheel of life with judgment, anxiety, anger, laziness, hyper-sensitivity, brain fog, and envy. “Your ego is smarter than you are, way smarter, and if you don’t recognize it, you stand very little chance against it.” Jed McKenna – The Damnedest Thing The shadow that hides deep within the subconscious mind was described by Swiss psychiatrist, Dr. Carl Jung as the “intentionally forgotten.” Its old pain that bubbles up, cleverly disguised as new pain. Our daily distractions help us to avoid the necessary work that is needed to heal and release their emotional hold over us. These feelings can sometimes appear out of thin air. You could be having the best day ever and out of nowhere comes that old familiar low level feeling, supported by a thought, populating to remind you that you have problems. This is when free will kicks in. We get to choose at that moment, what type of karma we want to experience. When we silence them with distractions, we empower the shadow to create more pain. We silence them by reaching for the remote control or jump on our laptops to check emails, twitter, and our social media sites. We cord ourselves to them when we push our ear buds in deeper and turn up the volume or watch people spin out on our favorite reality shows. Our Souls communicate through emotions. The pain we experience is just our Souls reminding us that we have destructive beliefs hidden in our subconscious minds that need our loving attention. Use the shadows pain as a teaching or healing device. Recognizing that this pain cannot be hidden frees you from the fear of feeling it. Choosing to Feel this pain in the awareness that Joy is your birthright, will heal it and release the shadows effect. “Turn toward the light, for the little spark in you is part of a light so great that it can sweep you out of all darkness forever. For your Father is your Creator, and you are like him.” ACIM T-11.lll.5:6
