Sound and Music Healing Hello, thanks for visiting my site and blog. In the past few months I have the opportunity to work with some extraordinarily talented and gifted individuals in the healing arts. Of particular interest to me (because I am really just learning about the power of this) is sound or music healing. Zacchia Blackburn of The Center of Light Healing in VT, is a shamanic healer that uses chanting, bowls, chimes, drums, ancient string and wind instruments, visualization and music induced states of consiousnes to connect us to both the invisible world of guides and teachers but also to the spirits of the natural world of flora and fauna. His website is a tremenous resource for those wanting to learn more about this particular method of using sound and music. He travels and teaches extensively, including retreats at ancient healing sites. Dean Lloyd is trained in Oriental medicine practices including acupuncture. He rediscovered the Chinese pentatonic scale of music. He utilizes tones, as opposed to music. Tones have a specific frequency correlating to various chi meridians. This work is both audible and vibrational (tuning forks applied to acupuncture points). His book and site Acutone and Acutone will tell you more about his work, oxygen hydro-therapy clinic, radio shows and teaching. Dean regularly co-hosts Uncommon Awarenesses twice monthy round table Evolving the Species. Dean brings not only skill and talent, but an astute understanding of human consciousness in the role of health and healing. Janalea Hoffman is a pioneer in the field of Music Therapy. She is a musician, author, speaker and owner/ founder of Rhythmic Medicine. She works very closely with traditional medical practitioners to indtroduce what is called Prescriptive Medicine. She has developed specific techniques for using music to help lower heart rate and blood pressure and alleviate pain. She is known for developing the concepts of Musical Biofeedback, Musical Acupuncture and music written at exactly 50 beats per minute. An important part of her work is to teach people to play the Native American flute and understand the healing aspects and spirituality of this amazing instrument. As her work expands, her vision is that people will evaluate their “sound environment” as part of their wellness program.also offers extensive education, music CD’s for specific healing goals and traditional native american flutes for beginning your own music creation and therapy. Leigh Ann Phillips is an incredibly accomplished musician and singer. She writes, Sound can be a direct path for shifting consciousness for the better, allowing greater intelligence, deeper relaxation, less stress, and more creativity. We have the capability of improving our health and well being dramatically by using and understanding the power of sound. Sound healing is a direct path to establishing new neurological networks that create the conditions for increased happiness and health. Because we literally hear with our skin – not just our eardrums – we literally “feel” music, and it can be transformative on many levels. What all these amazing practitioners have in common is a deep compassion for human suffering and a deep understanding for the latent potential in all of us. All have incredible scientific knowledge in the area of entrainment, coherence, quantum physics and neural networks but the over all gift is one of devotion to the upliftment of the human spirit and psyche.
