Sounds like 2014 s going to be a year of turmoil, politically, environmentally, I remember when they first started talking treaty, the tribal council held uza meetings during that period we had a lot of leaders, outstanding Elders that spoke up. They were not afraid to voice their opinion. The emphasis was on land; keyoh, history, clan system, matrilineal lineage, Indian goverment as the late William George called it. They certainly knew what they were talking about. elders like the late Mary John Sr. shared their wisdom. Well they did away with treaty talks and it kinda faded out of the picture. Now we are faced with infringement of all sorts pertaining to land, not only the First Nations people will be impacted it will include all races as concerens are focused on environment and global warning plus green house emissions. How will our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren live or have the ability to adapt to pollution, acid rain, etc? We live on specific Indian reserves and we dont have the money, resources to deal with all this issue. Even today the governments get their own way, let alone proper negotiations. We are getting more younger people on council who some may not be fully educated about all these concerns. What we need is good planning for the future which Im sure should be happening.
