I’ve spent a long time this year getting my ears around some quite ‘out-there’ music, particularly music where acoustic instruments and electronics are mixed (Nils Frahm, A Winged Victory For The Sullen) Mica Levis work for this film combines traditional recordings of the types of sounds you might expect for a horror movie (discordant tremolo strings) with other recordings that are heavily manipulated. The results are shockingly good (and very, very disturbing); particularly a string motif that plays at different speeds and pitches. Low and foreboding, and high and terrifying… Jx
