Sour Grapes: Shakespeares Macbeth (Act V, Scene V) Out, out, brief candle! Lifes but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, and signifying nothing. This is espoused by man to be a supreme example of the brilliance of the human analytical minds summation of what life in reality is. However lets call a spade a spade. To do that, one requires the Christians perspective. What is designated as a sample of human brilliance is in fact, sour grapes! However I cannot dismiss the possibility that Shakespeare might have been denouncing man as frivolous in not seeing that this life with all that man values was to be eschewed. I dont know, but... In order to implement the Christian Sound Mind to decipher this brilliance we need but two keys to do so. One is Biblical Numerology (demonstrated in the Bible). The other is Duality, a system bred by the Dichotomy of man (the soul/body composition of man). Man is surrounded by dualities in his passage through the panorama of life. Using Duality to break this down into logical components we find that this is a gripe. It is man complaining about the frivolity of chance and whimsy. But chance and whimsy only exist because of the Fall of man. Chaos only exists due to the Fall of man. For the agent in the cause of the present state of affairs, to point accusatory fingers at that which he himself is the author of, is merely a act of misdirection, not unlike that of the prestidigitator. It is born of sour grapes. It is a representation of blame shifting. It is a product of anger against those who would say that God is good. A house divided. The house is that of man. Man is either redeemed or not. Yes, true if I were unredeemed, I would upon reading this, perhaps, join the ranks of those who say, Wow Shakespeare was awesome. But I am privileged in far too many ways, because I am redeemed. There is tremendous irony in what Shakespeare wrote here (Macbeth Act V, Scene V) and unfortunately that is the true insight and genius in the context. It is the irony. He actually is saying, All of my efforts to bring down the strongholds of God are of a futile makeup. Yes, this is so! Just listen....; Out, out brief candle! S all she wrote, as a descendant of a fallen creation, and not the eternity which could have been claimed. Lifes, but a walking shadow,... A semblance of what once was intended. Gods original intent for man. ...a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more: So crystal clear, he describes a being (lost man) who boasts (struts) one second, then spends an existence of pain, uncertainty, fear, and worry (frets) . ..it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, and signifying nothing. This is where the full disclosure of mans pain, and the authors pain become one. Duality reveals this fact. There is a duality to a great deal of mans actions, and the themes he would go forth to battle for, and represent. Mans (lost mans) themes possess a telling duality. It stands to reason that when man climbs a soap box, there is a truth he would trade heart and soul to bury. The aforesaid is a prime example of what I strongly put forth as a duality. I use Duality to make sense of a load of puzzles. It is a duality in that it is accusing existence of having no rhyme or reason. The problem with this surmise is that the evidence for there being no rhyme or reason to existence is that man is subject to delusion. IE man is in need of the Sound Mind which is not his while he is under the 1st Adam. Therefore existence is infected with mans fallibleness, his flaw. The way things are, reflect the flawed creation. A enigma, confusion, the death life, not the abundant life. Life has no rhyme or reason for Adamic lost man. Therefore lost man complaining about the only option for existence afforded him by his nature is duplicitous, is a duality. For life to be singular, as in possessing wholeness, man needs to be connected to the creator by the Spirit of God. Then life would not be the analogy of a tale told by an idiot, full of sound, and fury signifying nothing, for man with the Sound Mind would have significance. And finally, though likely, it will seem like a stretch to you: The Biblical number for mans limitations is number five (5). I dont think it is a co-inky dink that this most renouned of Shakespeares quotes which is favored by lost man, especially braggadocious lost man, is that of Macbeth Act Five, Scene Five! Totally apropos.
