There was panic in Obafemi Awolowo Univeristy on Tuesday, September 8, when a female student was brought into the Varsitys Citadel health centre. On admittance, it was reported that the patient showed some symptoms of the raging EVD (Ebola Virus Disease). This prompted the health officials to carry out series of test on her.It was however discovered that she showed symptoms of Fever which the Students termed as Ebola symptoms.The fear that she may be suffering from Ebola emanated from the fact that she traveled down to Ife from Port harcourt which has witnessed cases of the virus. Speaking with CAMPUSLIFE, the Chief Medical Director of the OAU health centre, Dr. Adedayo Irinoye expressed sadness that students could circulate such germane rumors. According to him,there is no authenticity in the rumor.He said for the maintime its still a rumor and students shnuld remain calm. An health official who pleaded anonymity also disclosed that a letter has been sent to the Ebola emergency team in lagos,the team is expected in Ifesoon to carry out tests on the lady.Unconfirmed sources also hinted that the lady has been kept in isolation and this is basically precautionary.Students expressedfear at the possibility of the case being that of Ebola and pleaded that the school authority look into the case more carefully.OAU is known as the land of bats and batsare the carriers of the deadly virus,it remains to be seen how this situation will be handled by the OAU mgt.
