South Africa versus Nieu Zealand today on the rugby field! Always a very intense and emotional event for a number of different reasons. Recently, the fact that the lack of meaningful transformation in rugby which aims at proper representation of different race groups, highlighted the frustration and impatience of many rugby loving people. One of the reasons why thousands of rugby followers in our country cannot support the Spingboks and prefer to back foreign teams especially the All Blacks, is the fact that the remnants of Apartheid South Africa still massively control rugby in South Africa. Most commercial newspapers, television(mnet),some big corporates and sponsors of rugby, to mention but a few openly or subtelly support the status quo. It seems that the national government finds it hard to crack the hard core of the powers controlling rugby in our country. The voices of those in the inner circles who press for transformation are mostly soft and gentle. I want to support my own countrys sport. That is why I would like the result today to be in favour of South Africa. It does not mean that I support the poor and racist selection strategies of Heineke Meyer and his bunch of selectors.l hope that rugby will be freed from the present shackles of white minority rule so that every rugby lover in this land can eventually shout his/her heart out for our national teams.
