South African Institute of Civil Engineers A team of 3 learners from Mayibenye SSS in the rural Flagstaff of the Eastern Cape surprised everyone when they finished third at the SAICE international bridge building competition held in Pretoria on the 29th Aug 2014. Bapi Rubuluza insisted a team from his rural Eastern Cape be flown to Pretoria to compete among Southern Africas finest and wealthiest schools. Of the 20 schools that represented provinces and neighboring countries, the shy but confident team had to overcome all eventualities to finish the competition in a very respectable position. The team of first time flyers were all smiles, with their supervising teacher insisting that the air of disappointment for not finishing top will linger with them. Bapi told us we are here to compete, and we compete to finish first Mr Nleya says, adding that they are grateful for the support they get from professionals back at home.
