South African Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to 5 years in prison. Did he get off easy? Last year, he shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp through their bathroom door. The prosecution said he killed her on purpose, while the defense said he thought she was an intruder. The judge said there wasn’t enough evidence to prove Pistorius meant to kill Steenkamp, but he was found guilty of culpable homicide (equivalent to manslaughter). The prosecution argued for a 10-year prison sentence, while the defense pushed for a sentence of house arrest.
