South Australia Regional Office TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST SEVERE WEATHER WARNING for DAMAGING WINDS For people in the Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, West Coast, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Flinders, Mid North and parts of the Murraylands districts. Issued at 10:01 pm Wednesday, 17 July 2013. A deep low pressure system over the western Bight is forecast to move eastwards to be centred over waters west of southern Eyre Peninsula Thursday morning, then southeastwards to be south of Kangaroo Island mid afternoon and south of Mount Gambier by the end of Thursday. This weather system is likely to cause strong to locally gale force northerly winds over central districts tonight. Strong to gale force northwest to westerly winds will affect the southern half of the State during Thursday, with squally showers and localised gusts over 100 km/h. There is potential for damage to homes and property with these winds. Northeast to northerly winds may reach 50-65 km/h at times with gusts of 90-100 km/h east of Port Lincoln, and particularly over the higher parts of the Flinders and Mount Lofty Ranges tonight. Locations likely to be affected include Jamestown, Mount Barker and Mount Compass. Northwest to westerly winds are forecast to increase to 50-70 km/h with gusts over 100 km/h in the far west this evening. These damaging winds are expected to spread eastwards on Thursday as the low moves east, reaching the Adelaide area mid-late morning. Locations likely to be affected overnight and on Thursday morning include Nullarbor, Ceduna, Port Lincoln and Kingscote.
