South Australian Deployment Update Our RFS volunteers from the Shire had a busy day yesterday working on the Sampson Flat fire North East of Adelaide. The large and complex fire has burnt over 12,500 hectares and has a perimeter of 240km. It is not yet contained. Throughout the day crews worked in very warm conditions and were located in the Humbug Scrub area, a locality 40 minutes from Adelaide. Crews were tasked with property protection in this area and containing the fire as it burnt through cured grassland. Pictured below is our shire strike team working in this area supported by an Air Crane helicopter. Trees as pictured pose a significant risk to firefighter safety and our crews are working vigilantly in these areas. The crews will work again today and tomorrow before being released on Wednesday. A request to replace these crews was received last night with further shire crews to fly out tomorrow and work from Wednesday through to Saturday. There is no relief in the weather with 38c predicted in Adelaide for the next 2 days. We continue to wish them a safe and effective fire fight.
