South Australias Mother of the Year, Monica Perrett, was fostering her three-month-old nephew when he died last month. The tragedy led to her campaign against laws in South Australia which exclude foster parents from being involved in the funeral or being listed on the death certificate. When a foster child passes away, and it doesnt matter how old they are and how long youve had that child, all the rights that the foster parents had with that child dies with the child and everything goes back to the biological parent, says Ms Perrett.
