South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust Wins HSJ Efficiency Award South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS) are pleased to announce that on Wednesday 25 September the service won the prize for Efficiency in Transport and Logistics at the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Efficiency Awards. SCAS won the award for the Solar Panel Power on Rapid Response Project which saw the service implement solar panels on 36 Rapid Response Vehicles (RRV) which would power the secondary battery which provides all emergency equipment on these vehicles. Phil Pimlott, Assistant Director of Operational Support / Special Operations said “We are really pleased to have won this prestigious award which celebrates our work in energy efficiency which has environmental benefits. Adding them to our vehicles will mean that we continue to reduce our carbon footprint and make a real difference to our patients and the environment for the future.” SCAS took the initiative to introduce solar panels to the vehicles to help reduce fuel consumption, battery replacement costs, the Trusts carbon footprint, the need for RRVs to return to base and reliance on traditional shoreline on vehicle charging systems to recharge vehicle batteries.
