South Missourian Democrat, March 24, 1910 BRAWLEY by Happy John We are having some pleasant weather at this writing. J.M. Cooley made a business trip to Winona yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Brawley moved to Edmason last week. Mrs. J.M. Douglass and family moved in their new house last week. Rev. McLone conducted religious services at New Liberty Sunday. Miss Ruby Allmon was the guest of Mrs. Haynes and family Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Barnes and family visited Mr. and Mrs. L. Bales yesterday. Frank Barnes was seen at Mr. Alberts Sunday. What is the attraction Frank? Mr. and Mrs. C. Simpson and family visited Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Allmon and family Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. W. Reed visited Mrs. M. Haynes and family last week returning home Friday. Tommy Allmon was seen at W. Walters Sunday. Look out Tommy “old tip” will get you. Martin Albert made a flying trip to Thomasville yesterday. Ah! Martin who was it so gay? J.M. Brawley and family visited relatives at Fremont Saturday, returning home Sunday. Misses Ruth and Esther Haynes were the guests of Mrs. M. Cooley and family Wednesday night. Born to Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Allman, a fine baby boy. Mother and baby are getting along nicely. George Wallers “little mule” was seen tied near Mr. Van Winkle’s Sunday. Oh! Where was George. The “Game Warden” of Wilderness has been seen in this neighborhood. A “roguish cow” tore down Frank Barnes’ fence a few nights ago. Frank, I guess you will have to yoke him before you put your crop in. NORMAN by Opal S.E. Sweeney was at G.B. Norman’s Saturday. The new phone line is a success and everyone is highly elated. The singing at Bonds has been postponed on account of the measles. Get busy all of you pretty girls and win the piano. Vallie says, she will hollow “give me Fritz” over the phone. He is all O.K. Vallie. Elijah Forrest and wife attended the funeral of Everette Forrester at the Cave Springs. Mrs. Grace Holman was a caller at the home of her sister, Maude Gaulding, Saturday night. Wm. Holman and Chas. Buttrick bought some corn of J.R. Williams. They went after a load Wednesday. Misses Ora and Little Maudie Cartee and Martha Rhoades were guests of Mrs. Delia Yarbrough’s Wednesday. Mr. Earl Andrews of Alton was walking the streets of Norman Sunday. Earl why don’t you go some other way? Wake up all you people at Norman and let’s send the Sunday school on. We are all able to have a fine Sunday school. J.R. Williams has just finished one mile of woven wire fence. He says he can go to sleep at night without thinking of the old cow. The Misses Maude and Vallie Williams and Nora Rolling were pleasant callers at the home of Miss Lizzie Ricketts Sunday evening. Fine weather now and the farmers are all turning ground. Easter is coming soon. Women watch the egg basket and see that it doesn’t go down any just before, as boys always like an egg roast. Miss Maude Williams has just returned home from teaching school. She ways she had rather stay over at Oak Hill because it is awfully lonesome especially of a Sunday. COUCH CLIPPERS by Come Again Miss Julia Lew is on the sick list. Buck Harper was trading in Alton today. Dr. and Mrs. Rhea were in Alton last week. Mrs. Albert Harper and son are on the sick list. Mrs. Davie Tarlton and Tom Fry’s baby are on the sick list. There are some 40 cases of measles 3 or 4 miles west of here. Miss Sallie Bates of Alton was visiting in Couch last week. Ben Ford and family are visiting in Mammoth Spring this week. A new girl has arrived at Tom Yarbrough’s and a boy at Grover Arnold’s. One of George Birchett’s boys shot himself through the hand and thigh. Mrs. John Norman and Mrs. Susie Sanders of Couch are trading in Alton today. Bro. Biffle of Birch Tree has been holding a revival meeting at New Salem for the past week or two. Boys carrying revolvers are not only violating the law but are dangerous companions. Tommy Thompson and family were trading in Couch last Saturday. Tommy said he had two boys laid up with broken arms. GONE TO REST: Everett, aged eleven, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. William Forester, died at htheir home five miles east of Alton, March 16, 1910, and was buried at Cave Spring Thursday. THOMASVILLE TIMES by Crazy Bob Fine weather at this writing. Albert Fisher and family moved to the Griffith farm last week. Several young folks spent Sunday with Maude and Vibert Floyd. J.C. Kerby and son, Lon T., of West Plains were in our town last week. John Row and several others went to Alton to attend to business last week. Wm. Hass, of this place, and David Hass of near Thayer, went to look at a farm last week. Mrs. Jim Franks spent Wednesday afternoon with her mother, Mrs. Jim Floyd. A.M. Winner of Kansas City, was in our city on business the later part of the week. Messrs. William Sherrill and A.O. Roberts made a flying trip to West Plains the later part of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Benj. Gum of Alton spent several days with their son, Mr. and Mrs. C.O. Gum, last week. Quite a crowd of young folks gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Fisher Saturday night. All report a dandy time. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Floyd went to Shannon County one day last week. They returned with a fine horse which they bought while there. NEBO SPECIAL by Dixie Fine weather at present. Ode Staires was a caller at Mr. Clay’s Sunday. Farmers are fencing and plowing, getting ready to plant. Miss Eva Clay was the guest of Mrs. Mae Cline Saturday. Miss Clara Phillips was the guest of Miss Hattie Clay Sunday. Rev. Will Pierce filled his regular appointment at Nebo Sunday. Miss Belle Cartee was the guest of Mrs. Jane Phillips Sunday. Miss Lucy Forester was the guest of Miss Savannah Pierce Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. S.A. Rhoades visited with Mr. and Mrs. George Cline Sunday. Misses Dora Johnson and Lora Custer of Cave, attended church here Sunday. Milburn Oliver, of Alton, has been spending the week with his uncle, Whit Oliver. Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Mills spent Saturday night and Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. G.S. Clay. Mr. and Mrs. Weiser and Mr. and Mrs. Oliver were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clay Sunday. NEBO-CAVE SPRINGS by Slim Say Tommie how do you like to go to the Springs! Mr. Sam Rhoades and family attended church at Nebo Sunday. Quite a crowd of young folks visited Misses Ola and Bertha Barton Sunday. Lucas Bates and wife visited B.B. Sanders and family Saturday and Sunday. W.C. Norman and daughter visited W.W. Pierce and family Saturday night and Sunday. Quite a number of people attended church at Nebo Sunday. Preaching by Rev. Pierce. Singing was conducted by Oglesby Custer. KOSHKONONG KERNELS by Sunbeam Dan Cash of Thayer was here one day this week. Mrs. J.S. Holloway visited in West Plains the first of this week. Mrs. Smoot and family moved out on the Maple Loaf Fruit farm this week. E.F. Taber of West Liberty, Iowa came in Wednesday to attend to his farm west of town. A Home Talent Play was given here Wednesday night by the Mammoth Spring Dramatic club. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Sutton left for Oklahoma Friday where they expect to make their future home. Mrs. Robert Gray left for her home in Springfield, after a week’s visit with her daughter, Mrs. J.S. Tillery. Charley Cressap went to Springfield this week to visit his little daughter who is attending school in that place. Mrs. M.B. Clark of West Plains and Mrs. Will Blain of Peidmont, Mo., visited with their brother J.Ed Old Wednesday. Fred Healey and little son, Lyon, who has been spending the winter with his grandmother in Iowa, returned home Monday night. Mrs. T.J. Richardson bought the old school house and has divided it into two parts. He is building on one part of it which will be finished up for Mr. and Mrs. Veach. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Healy gave a dance in their home Tuesday night. A crowd from Brandsville and the crowd from Brandsville and the crowd from Koshkonong made quite a good many guests but they all enjoyed the evening very much. Mrs. U.G. Davis and Mrs. T.E. Roderick entertained the Priscilla Club and husbands Thursday evening, St. Patrick’s Day. The house was beautifully decorated with shamrocks and other Irish emblems. A three course luncheon was served. There were about forty guests present. WOODSIDE WANDERINGS by Wake-Em-Up Fine weather at this writing. Farmers in this vicinity are very busy. Most Farmers are through sowing oats. Mason Minnich made a trip to the camp Saturday. The six children of Mr. Snow are down with the measles. Lonnie McGuire took dinner at J.M. McGuire’s Sunday. Mrs. Florea was visiting with Mrs. McGuire Monday. Walter Shehorn was hauling hay from J.n. Florea’s Monday. Pete Millsap bought about 25 or 30 sheep from Tommy Warren the other day. Bill Sifford has bought Will Chronister out but will not take possession for some time.
