South Sudan parliament elects Magok Rundial as new speaker September 2, 2013 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s national legislative assembly has elected Magok Rundial as the new speaker of the parliament. A little known Rundial from Unity state was unanimously endorsed at 3:15PM on Monday confirming the week-long speculations that president Kiir has been mobilizing the parliament to elect him. No voting was conducted during the endorsement. A member of parliament said that Kiir on Monday clearly told them to elect Rundial and two deputies of his choice, reiterating his earlier intimidation on the parliament to support his actions and choices or risk getting dissolved. Rundial has replaced James Wani Igga who was appointed last week as the new Vice President of South Sudan following the sacking of Riek Machar, former vice-president. Two new speakers will also be elected as the two former deputy speakers, Daniel Awet Akot and Fatima Nyawang Biliu have resigned from their positions as deputies.
