South Tamworth feels the brunt of Tuesdays storm By Catherine Clifford, Wednesday October 30, 2013 - 08:18 EDT South Tamworth feels the brunt of Tuesdays hail storm. October 29, 2013. - ABC A fast-moving line of intense storms between Gunnedah and the Hunter Valley, and Inverell and Armidale, brought strong winds and hail to parts of the region on Tuesday. South Tamworth and Armidale were hit with large hail stones. The Bureau of Meteorology says it recorded wind gusts of up to 85km/h. Windows were broken at South Tamworth Public School and cars were damaged in the car park. Lightning started a fire on Beaumonts Road near Ashford, burning more than 100 hectares. Official rainfall figures were patchy, with Nundle recording 20mm, Armidale 18mm, Tamworth 11mm and Glen Innes just 0.8mm. The low pressure trough that brought the damaging wind and hail has since moved out into the Tasman Sea. - ABC © ABC 2013
