South West Sports Gala Night The prestigious South West Sydney Academy of Sports awards night was held at Campbelltown Catholic Club last Friday. Local sports identities Sarah Ryan, (swimming) Kaarle (netball) and Abbey McCullock (cycling), James Tedesco (Rugby League) and Anna Laman (middle distance running) addressed a crowd of 500 people. Singers and musicians from Campbelltown Performing Arts High School, including Hannah Mitchell, whose family I had as guests to Parliament House in recent months were widely acclaimed by the audience. The principal award winner was golfer Ben Clapham who was named “Athlete of the Year”. The Lone Star award for an athlete with a disability went to Jess Cronje. Congratulations to Gerry Knights and the committee who stress not only competitiveness and success but also team spirit, ethics and always ensure that all participants are more than capable of holding their own in public speaking. It’s also worth saluting Pat McGeown of C91.3 FM radio. If there is a public community cause you can guarantee he will be there.
