Southeast Asia Dominates in App Downloads per User They may not lead the world in sheer volume of app downloads, but certain nations of the Southeastern Pacific region are well ahead when it come to the amount of apps installed per user. Malaysia and Indonesia both recorded app installations of more than 4 per 100 users, getting 4.84 and 4.15 installs per 100 respectively, according to Q2 2014 research data. Also from Southeast Asia, the third, fourth and fifth countries that downloaded the most apps per 100 users where the Philippines, South Korea and Taiwan, with ratios of 2.74, 2.45 and 2.11 apps per 100 users respectively, all well ahead of sixth place France with 1.62 apps downloaded per 100. The US and UK were way down in eighth and tenth place, managing on 1.25 and 1.11 apps per 100 user. However, with smartphone penetration in the US being so much higher than the Southeast Asian countries, 1.25 apps downloaded in the US for every 100 mobile internet users is still enough to account for 18% of the worldwide download share, way out in front of second place China, that has 10% of the share. The US still dominates, thanks to the fact that 51.3% of consumers own and use a smartphone, compared to eMarketers estimate that only 23.9% of the total population of the Asia-Pacific region currently do.
