Southern Illinois University Carbondale assistant coach Nick Hill - TopicsExpress

Southern Illinois University Carbondale assistant coach Nick Hill has been quite busy recruiting the Orlando area for college football prospects and it has paid big dividends so far. Lake Mary cornerback Julius Washington is the latest Central Florida player to join the exodus to SIU, which so far has seen 2015 class members QB Tanner Hearn of Orlando East River and RB Daquan Isom of Orlando Dr. Phillips commit to the Salukis. Hill also landed Mount Dora ATH Jerfferson Vea and Eustis LB Jaylon Graham in the 2014 recruiting class. Vea was instrumental in helping Washington make his decision. What really made me decide was that when I went up there, I thought it was a pretty good environment with the team, especially with Jeff Vea, Washington said. I really vibed with him a lot and he told me a lot about the program and the coaches. I also like the coaches a lot and they showed me nothing but love when I went up there. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound Washington, who committed to the Salukis last month, said it also did not hurt that there are several other Central Florida players headed to SIU. I played with Tanner over the summer in 7-on-7 so he wanted me to go up there too, Washington said. And then ultimately it came down to needs. I really felt like I would be a great fit there for what they try to do. Washington was a key part of a Lake Mary program that lost just two games over the past two seasons. He had eight interceptions as a junior and was limited to just six games as a senior after being plagued by injury.
