Southwest Volusia residents interested in the future of two of the area’s largest lakes, Harney and Monroe, might want to attend a meeting Thursday in Sanford. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has invited local officials, environmental advocates and others to discuss restoration plans for both lakes, part of the St. Johns River system. An annual progress report will be presented. State officials said pollution has been significantly cut in both lakes. “The considerable progress we have made in this basin is a testimony to the environmental leadership and commitment of our stakeholders,” said Tom Frick, director of the DEP’s Division of Environmental Assessment and Restoration. The meeting takes place from 10 a.m. to noon at 250 W. County Home Road, Sanford.
