Southwinds E-mail Encourager Proverbs 18:11 “The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it an unscalable wall.” Security from any source other than God is only imagined. We try as best we can to fortify ourselves in all possible circumstances, to avoid harm to those we love and ourselves, to protect our assets, and not the least of which is to guard against emotional upset. All of these are areas that we can become vulnerable. Wealth can seem the safest and the most full-proof, because it affords us the most independence. However, what we deem to be independence and security can be just the opposite. The fortified city of wealth can make us prisoners of opulence.
