Firstly to refer to the ‘interest’ you earn on your investments, in contexts where English uses the singular form: Example: los intereses devengados desde el día 1 de mayo de este año interest accrued since 1st May this year Example: el pago de intereses de la deuda exterior payment of interest on the foreign debt You also use “intereses” to refer to commercial and political interests: Example: Hay intereses ecónomicos por medio. There are financial interests involved. Example: Un conflicto de intereses puede surgir entre el poder ejecutivo y el poder judicial. There may be a conflict of interest between the executive and the judiciary. Example: Se sabe que Francia tiene intereses en pozos petrolíferos en Irán. France is known to have a stake in oil wells in Iran.
