Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo has claimed Barcelona will sign Pepe Reina for around £5 million. Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo has claimed Barcelona will sign Pepe Reina, for around €5 million. Barcelona have been hunting for a goalkeeper to replace Victor Valdes ever since the current number one said he wasn’t going to be staying at the Nou Camp beyond his current contract which expires next summer. One of the obvious candidates to replace him is Pepe Reina, on loan away from Liverpool at Napoli in Serie A and someone who has already agreed a deal to leave the club according to Mundo. LIVE Premier League match alerts to your phone - goals, red cards, half and full time scores The paper suggests that Reina and Liverpool have already reached an agreement which will see him leave the club for around €5 million when he returns to Anfield from his loan spell in Italy at the end of the season. “That price is already fixed and agreed upon by Reina with Liverpool, the club he belongs (is under contract until 2016, resulted in its last renovation) and gave him last summer to Naples after signing Belgian goalkeeper Mignolet. There are five million. This figure is more than affordable for a 30-year goalkeeper and current contract,” reads a translated version of the report. It’s good business on the part of Liverpool considering that Reina will still have two years left to run on his current deal when he returns next summer. It’s also remarkable considering the position of power Liverpool find themselves in, with an experienced and top quality goalkeeper wanted by one of the best teams in Europe. Liverpool could surely justify charging at least double the reported amount considering the quality Reina guarantees and the fact he’s still only 31-years-old with several years left in the game.
