Spare a thought, a few coins, or even a few minutes to chat to someone less fortunate than yourself... I’m sure we are all aware of the basic principles of human rights – the most well versed being “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights” Unfortunately, although this is a founding principle of most modern societies, like many human rights, it is not stated fact, and the idea of it being a stated fact allows some others to use it to justify their discriminatory behavior toward those who have not achieved what they have achieved. Be kind to one another – we are all individuals, with lifetimes of individual experiences – and it is these experiences that determine who we become. We should try to refrain from judging others on our own experiences, standards and ability to ‘succeed’. (PS. the right to food and shelter is # 25 of the HRA) Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.
