Spark of the White Ribbon Day New Zealand When my son Was two, I took him to his doctor apt. I was told he was going to be handicapped all his life and I would have to care for him forever. I was shocked and had enough bus fare to go to the mall and home. I went to walk around the mall, as walking was a way to de-stress and calm down. I was in tears and shock, as I was walking through the mall I came to a booth with poems in frames. I stopped and read a couple. Came across one called heavens special child, it made me cry, cause the words were so true. I placed it back on the stand and started walking away when the lady there who I had not noticed before, called to me and told me I forgot my package, I told her I didnt have one as I had just enough to get home on. She insisted I take the small bag. In the bag was a copy of the poem. I cried! I thanked her and went home. The next day was military pay day so I went back to the mall to pay her for the poem. I walked the entire mall 3 times, could not find the booth! I went to mall security and asked if they could locate it for me. You cant believe my shock when they told me they NEVER had a booth like that ever! That poem helped me through many years of raising two children!!! I have since shared that poem with hundreds of parents of special needs children. I met an angel that day! GOD knew what I needed to help me and sent it! Heavens Special Child A meeting was held quite far from earth, “It’s time again for another birth.” Said the angels to the Lord above, “This special child will need much love.” “Their progress may be very slow, Accomplishments they may not show. And they’ll require extra care From the folks they meet down there.” “They may not run or laugh or play, Their thoughts may seem quite far away. In many ways they won’t adapt, And they’ll be known as ‘Handicapped’.” “So let’s be careful where they’re sent. We want their lives to be content. Please, Lord, find the parents who Will do a special job for you.” “They will not realize right away The leading role they are asked to play. But with this child sent from above Comes stronger faith and richer love.” “And soon they’ll know the privilege given In caring for their special gift from Heaven.
