Speak that real Nina.... Now you want to know what is crazy about this? With all of Dr. Nina Simones efforts to enlighten her people of their greatness through her work, the vast majority of that work is owned by whites. How many of our people under age 50 can elaborate on who Nina was and is to the black plight. As Jason Richardson said in a post earlier, one of our most devastating illnesses is the ignorance of self. We have allowed our white oppressor to inculcate a distorted view of our history into our psyche. We have allowed that same white oppressor to levy a watered down version of the greatest man to ever walk this planet as a means of controlling us and diminishing our cognizance of our heritage and the greatness that is revealed therein. The powerful force of a positive self-image cannot be contained by any one system; not even the white supremacist system that dominates this country. Who we are is greater than any system built to destroy us. The problem is that we must come alive in the knowledge of self. We must embrace our greatness, black men. You must embrace your physical, spiritual and emotional wombs black women. You were designed to birth greatness. Dont abort not one more child, until you understand the force behind it. Nina was unapologetic for the love she had for her race. She was not concerned with being politically correct, she was concerned with connecting black people with the beauty of their own existence.
