Speaker Spotlight: Dr. Trevor Sofield Dr Trevor Sofield has carried out more than 80 development projects in 30 countries, including as Team Leader for the Greater Mekong Sub-Region Tourism Development Project based in Phnom Penh and Hanoi (2005-2008), team leader for the BIMP EAGA (Brunei Indonesia Malaysia Philippines East Asia Growth Area) Community Based Ecotourism Strategy (2010-2011), and team leader for the Nepal Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Project which has grown from an initial 48 community-based projects since 2000 to more than 650 such projects today. He has worked on 30 tourism development projects in China, including 20 ecotourism projects associated with national nature reserves, and is a member of the IUCN United Nations (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) World Council for Protected Areas Specialist Tourism Group. Dr. Sofield has authored more than 250 publications, including books, monographs, academic articles, reports and conference papers, and is currently located in Hong Kong teaching ecotourism in the Masters in Sustainable Tourism Program at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. With his experiences as an eco-lodge owner, an academic and a project developer he is a practitioner of ecotourism, an academic researcher of ecotourism, and a planner of ecotourism.
