Speaking as a father whose 11-year-old used the TTC to attend a field trip within the past week, I approve. But speaking as a transit advocate, I think this is a bad move. A transit system is not a social service, and thinking that it is leads to perverse outcomes, like - most relevant in Torontos case - persistent operating under-funding. Its no accident that the TTC has trouble delivering reliable and uncrowded service; playing politics with its fare structure is part of the reason.
