Speaking at a news conference in Damascus, Gregory III Laham, the Greek Melkite Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, said that the heads of Eastern churches had met in Lebanon earlier this month to see how they could play a real role in this very tragic situation of all Christians and more, all populations in the Middle East. He added that he wanted the whole world to hear the voice of the church... as we are really representative of the people of the very weak and very simple people who are really in danger. Patriarchs from across the region have expressed their outrage over the displacement of Christians in northern Iraq and appealed to the international community - and Muslim countries in particular - to take action and stop the persecution.
