Speaking at the Deutsches Museum tomorrow on Art & Science ... on my way to Munich - a little free online time ... cheers Heathrow Terminal 5 ... “All our knowledge has its origins in our perceptions” (Leonardo da Vinci) Six hundred years ago the scientist and artist Leonardo da Vinci personified the renaissance of the “unquenchable curiosity” for understanding nature and the aesthetics of representing knowledge. It was a time when innovation, scientific progress and arts were coupled together with no clear distinction between disciplines. In this ArtScience event, we will challenge how we think about art and science, offering a new space for new ideas and collaborations. The evening will begin with six untitled images chosen by three artists and three scientists on the panel. The public will be asked to judge which image belongs to which discipline. The IceCube project at the South Pole will be introduced as example of an extreme experimental installation with a clear scientific mission that challenges our perception, and produces images that cross boundaries, having an aesthetic value in their own right while also conveying vital technical and scientific meaning. Join us for a panel discussion with leading artists and scientists on what they have in common, and what they can learn from each other. Hear how emerging technologies, parallel innovations, and collaborative work between art and science can be harnessed to produce and explore new models for a deeper understanding of reality and how to represent it. Panel members are: Rachel Armstrong, Francis Halzen, Wolfgang Heckl, Mark-David Hosale, Joost Rekveld, and Christian Spiering deutsches-museum.de/information/kalender/ereignis/termine/event//tx_cal_phpicalendar/art_science/vortraege/2013/09/29/
