Speaking o pianos, Julie & Jeanie, Ive got a story from the grand - TopicsExpress

Speaking o pianos, Julie & Jeanie, Ive got a story from the grand opening of the big Hilton at Canal St. & the river in New Orleans years ago. About 6 mos. or so after the opening I was at the dock loading my drums back in to the truck after a late gig and couldnt believe what I saw. Crammed inside a dumpster was a black Yamaha grand with the legs sawed off!! ...later found out that the piano had gotten in such disrepair from the many bad pounding players during the opening that hotel management decided it was simpler to write it off as a loss. Rather than getting it repaired by a competent technician in their minds it was easier to write up a purchase order for a new one!! I do bleev you can take the legs off of those things but you know how it is when you leave something like moving and/or disposing of a piano to a hotel work crew!! Such a shame as they couldve at least donated the thing to a charity or school. I looked at it that night and other than the legs being cut off it was cosmetically fine. Im sure there were issues with action, pedals, etc, from 6 mos. of Charles Atlas-style players pounding on it but come on now, how complicated is it to write a repair order? Some people just dont think critically, especially hotel managers.
