Here is one of the best-known 鄭錦昌 songs https://youtube/watch?v=FT79rX_7iIw I think the reason Sam Hui succeeded was TV became the dominant media superseding radio, with TVB providing OTA broadcasts beginning in the late 60s (Before that Rediffusions paid cable TV was the only game in town). Sam Hui was playing with his band Lotus and had a TV show prior to starring with his brother Michael in《雙星報喜》, both on TVB. He was perceived to be more hip even though his singing voice was inferior to both of those two singers. At the same time, Cantonese language songs were not hip to teens. It actually took 2 to 3 years to bring Cantonese language songs to prominence after《鐵塔凌雲》first aired on TV with the movie《鬼馬雙星》starring the two brothers and an all-Cantonese-language album of the same name.
