Speaking of Sears....does anyone remember department stores would play a series of bells/tones, that were actually coded messages for management? My mom worked at Wards, and explained that they were codes: IE: 1 bell= manager pick-up white-phone 2 bells = Asst. Manager pick-up white-phone 3 bells = Security needed in office.. Etc. This was in a time when people had loftier expectations of their shopping experience, and were unaccustomed being distracted by store-logistics. Something as uncouth as a zit-faced kid overdriving a microphone, sounding like Charlie Browns teacher, as he affected some sort of inane communication....would certainly be considered an unwelcome interruption, and reason to shop elsewhere.
