Speaking to a friend who moved from abroad to Hanoi: Me: Having a Vietnamese girlfriend must be really useful, huh? Him: What do you mean? Me: Well, she speaks the language and understands the system. For example, she probably knows the value of things, and can negotiate prices. Him: Yeah! I was buying a blanket and she negotiated the price down. But then she got one for herself which I then had to pay for. Actually, she may as well have not gotten involved!
