Speaking today at the Faculty Spring Convocation, Acting Chancellor Flandus McClinton, Jr., thanked members of the SUBR faculty for their assistance during the fall 2014 semester, his first full semester as head of the campus. McClinton and a number of campus officials spoke on a wide-range of topics, including the status of the university and strategies to increase enrollment and retention. The acting chancellor told the Cotillion Ballroom audience that the school is working to: keep the school on solid financial footing even in light of a possible mid-year budget cut from state; complete its 5-year SACS report well ahead of the March 16, 2016 deadline; encourage faculty to assist in the recruitment effort. Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. VerJanis A. Peoples and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Dr. Brandon K. Dumas emphasized the campus-wide effort to boost enrollment and to give students the academic counseling they need to be successful. Dr. Barbara Carpenter, head of the Center for International Students, discussed her office’s effort to increase International Education. She also had Dr. Ibrahim Korkmaz, a Congressman in the Turkish government, to speak to the audience about his involvement in recruitment of students from his country. Dr. Urban Wiggins, Director of the Office of Planning, Assessment and Institutional Research, talked about SU’s effort to improve its standing on the GRAD Act. Also, among others to speak, included: Dr, Kim Chavis, Director of the Title III Program, Dr. Donovan Segura, Assistant Director of Assessment, Dr. Michael Stubblefield, Vice Chancellor of Research & Strategic Planning, Dr. Thomas Miller, President of the Faculty Senate and Dr. Doze Butler, Associate Dean of the College of Sciences and Agriculture.
