Special Elections were intended for emergencies. There is a Special Election TOMORROW (March 11) in Pulaski County that is NOT an emergency. Frank Scott, co-chair of of the campaign to raise our taxes to help fund Pulaski Technical school, admitted (in Saturdays AR Dem/Gaz) that they are holding a Special Election because fewer people know about special elections and that fact will make it easier to get the new tax passed! Special Elections typically draw a dismal 10% of the citizens because people do not know about the election. This is the larger principle at work here....we need to be sure that the will of the people is properly represented. Who would not want the voice of the people to be heard? We must put a stop to Special Elections by voting down any proposal that is presented for a vote away from a major election. By the way, a MAJOR election will be held in May. Could this vote have waited 60 days????? Yes!!!! But they were afraid it wouldnt pass if more citizens were aware and came out to vote. Please go vote to help put a stop to Special Elections in Arkansas. Thank you.
