Special Lensbaby Photo Challenge January 15, 2014 to February 15, 2014 open only to members of our Lensbaby Artistry Group here on Facebook. Doug & Roxanne Sahlin of Doug Plus Rox Photography and creators and administrators of the Lensbaby Artistry Facebook group are holding a special Lensbaby photography challenge between January 15, 2014 to February 15, 2014 based on the theme of Yin and Yang. Theme: Yin & Yang (In Chinese culture, Yin and Yang represent the two opposite principles in nature. Yin characterizes the feminine or negative nature of things and yang stands for the masculine or positive side.) Yin and yang are in pairs, such as the moon and the sun, female and male, dark and bright, cold and hot, passive and active, etc. But yin and yang are not static or just two separated things. The nature of yin and yang lies in interchange and interplay of the two components. For example, a magnet is both yin and yang. When you align the north pole of one magnet (yang) to the south pole of another magnet (yin), you have a magnetic attraction (opposites attract). When you align like poles of a magnet (yin to yin or yang to yang) the magnets repel each other. Use your imagination to create images that illustrate the principal of yin and yang. You can create your images with common objects that you arrange to create a still life image, or create images from objects that you find in nature or anywhere else you happen to be creating images with your Lensbaby. Doug and Roxanne will be judging this photo challenge. The images will be chosen based on the following criteria: 1. Mastery of Lensbaby Optic 35% 2. Originality of the theme 35% 3. Composition 30% Challenge Rules • Images must be created between January 15 and February 15, 2014 • You may post 2 images in the challenge gallery • Images must be posted prior to midnight February 15, 2014 • You may post under your given name only. Please do not post under a business or fan page name! • Images must be created with a Lensbaby lens and optic. • Images may be post-processed to enhance contrast, saturation and exposure, but do not create a montage of two or more images to interpret the them. • Images may be converted to black and white. • You must post the following information in the comments section when you post your images: 1. The lens (Composer Pro, Composer, Scout, etc) 2. The Optic (Plastic Optic, Double Glass Optic, Edge 80 Optic, etc) 3. Aperture setting or aperture disc size (if used) If you are shooting with a Spark then it has a constant aperture of f/5.6 4. Post an explanation that explains how your photo represents the Yin & Yang theme. 5. Post images in our Yin/Yang Challenge gallery, just as you post images to each months gallery. 6. Were all creative photographers here. We ask you to please put your creative thinking caps on for this challenge and please dont post a picture of a Yin/Yang symbol.
