Special Media Release Update On March 27, 2014 at approximately 3:30 p.m. a male contacted the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service uttering threats towards a female relative and indicating he had a firearm. He then hung up the phone. As a result, police attended the area of 333 Hedonics Road and contained the situation at which point the male refused to be co-operative with police. The Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Emergency Response Team was notified to attend as the male had barricaded himself in the residence with another female. At approximately 11:25 p.m. the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service in co-operation with Durham Regional Police Hostage Rescue Unit and Critical Incident team, successfully brought the incident of the barricaded male to a peaceful resolution. A 71 year old male was arrested for uttering threats. The investigation is continuing with regards to information the male was in possession of a firearm. Police remain on scene until a search warrant is obtained. A female relative who was also inside the residence with the male during the incident was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Center for treatment of anxiety. All traffic points have been opened and all those displaced to City transit and the Evinrude Centre have been advised they can return to their residence. Police wish to thank all citizens that were affected by this incident for their patience and support. Police also wish to thank the Durham Regional Police Service, The Peterborough Emergency Management Division for displacing people, Peterborough City Transit, Peterborough Public Works, Peterborough Fire Services, Peterborough County/City Paramedics and the management of the apartment buildings at 333 and 300 Hedonics Road for their assistance. Police would also like to thank the media for keeping citizens informed through out the incident and updating them when it was safe to return home. The name of the accused will not be released as this was a domestic incident. Initial Media Releases Special Media Release The Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service are currently dealing with an incident involving a barricaded male that we believe may be in possession of a firearm. The Emergency Response Team is on scene. Traffic has been shut down on Parkhill Road between Hedonics Road and Pinehill Drive, as well as Medical Drive between St. Peters Secondary School and Parkhill Road. Immediate neighbours have been notified and evacuated from their residences. Anyone with a direct view of 333 Hedonics Road is asked to stay inside until further notice. Police ask that all citizens remain away from the area for safety precautions. Special Media Release Update The Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service want to thank the public for their patience while police continue to deal with a barricaded male that is believed to be in possession of a firearm. It is anticipated that the roadways, as previously indicated, will remain closed for an extended period of time while police continue to deal with the situation. A City bus is on scene at Monaghan Road and Parkhill Road for pedestrian traffic to stay warm as many people are prevented from returning home. The Evinrude Centre has also been set up by the City Emergency Management Department to accommodate any displaced citizens. We will continue to update with necessary information
