Special Meeting - January 19, 1955 The board of county commissioners met in special session on above date with all members present. After a brief discussion of the secondary road resolution to be presented to the State Road Department, the board decided to present it to the State Road Department as amended at the regular January meeting. The following resolution was passed on motion by Golden, seconded by Johnson and passed unanimously: The Board of County Commissioners of Santa Rosa County, Florida, by direction of the Chairman, Joe T. Allen, convened in special session at the Court house in Milton, Florida, to conduct among other business affairs that of clarifying and setting out in the records of the Board of County Commissioners the definite terms of various members or the board of the Santa Rosa County Island Authority, and being advised that under Chapter 27881, Laws of 1951, subsection B of Section 3 thereof, provides that the Santa Rosa County Island authority shall consist of five members selected and appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. And or the original members of the Authority, there shall be appointed for terms ending January 15, 1953 and two for terms ending January 15, 1955. And thereafter, the members shall be appointed for terms of four years each, and it further appearing that the members of the Board and the appointment of them was not consummated until the regular meeting in December of 1953, (Minute Book K, page 184) at which time the following members were appointed for the number of years set opposite their names. Maxwell Ates 3 years John Malone 3 years Jack Hendrix 2 years George Leonard 2 years Lige Williams 3 years and it further appearing that George Leonard resigned or declined to accept the appointment, and that T. Franklin West was appointed to serve in his stead. The term of Jack Hendrix expired on January 15, 1955, by virtue of his appointment to one of the two short terms set forth in the statute, and he having moved from the State of Florida and no longer being in a position to serve as a member of the said Board, the Board of County Commissioners upon consideration of the appointment of someone in his stead, and at the regular meeting on January 11, 1955, W.T. McCurdy of Jay, Florida, was selected and unanimously appointed a member of the said Board, for a term beginning January 15, 1955 and terminating January 15, 1959, and Whereas, Lige Williams, who was appointed for a three year term at the December meeting in 1953 which said term runs for a period terminating January 15, 1957; Mr. C. B. Hurst was selected and unanimously appointed to serve for the unexpired term of Lige Williams, deceased, which said term ends January 15, 1957, and Whereas, T. Franklin West was at the regular meeting in December of 1953, selected and appointed as a member of the said Board for a term ending January 15, 1955 and was by the Board of County Commissioners of Santa Rosa County, Florida, at the regular meeting on January 11, 1955 selected and unanimously appointed a member of the said board for an additional term of four years beginning January 15, 1955 and terminating January 15, 1959, and Whereas, Maxwell Ates was at the regular meeting in December of 1953 selected and appointed as a member of the said Board for a term terminating January 15, 1957, and Whereas, John Malone, also known as J. C. Malone, Jr. was appointed at the regular meeting in December of 1953 for a term ending January 15, 1957, IT IS THEREFORE, the act of this Board that the selection and appointment of the five members of the Board of the Santa Rosa County Island Authority and their terms of appointment as heretofore set out, as follows: Maxwell Ates term ending January 15, 1957 J. C. Malone Jr. term ending January 15, 1957 C. B. Hurst term ending January 15, 1957 T. Franklin West term ending January 15, 1959 W. J. McCurdy term ending January 15, 1959 be and the said selection and appointment of each or the above members of the said Board be and the same are hereby ratified and confirmed. The foregoing action was so ratified and confirmed and the members aforesaid for the terms set forth opposite their names, were designated, selected and appointed upon motion of Johnson and seconded by Whitfield and unanimously approved by the entire board. DONE AND ORDERED this 21 day of January 1955, at a duly called special meeting of the Board of County Commissioners of Santa Rosa County, Florida. /s/ Joe T. Shell and carried unanimously, the board passed the following resolution: WHEREAS the Clerk of the Circuit Court, who is also Clerk for the Board of County Commissioners, has on many occasions for the past year gone to the expense of using his car for the benefit of the Board of County commissioners and for the business of the Board of County Commissioners, and WHEREAS this board feels that this expense should be paid by this board, and THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners of Santa Rosa County do hereby allow the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Santa Rosa County, who is also Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners of Santa Rosa County permission to use an car expense for the year beginning January lst, 1954 and ending December 31, 1954, the amount, of $50.00 per month.
