Special Meeting today Dec 28, 2014 @ 2pm. Tuba City Chapter House via Navajo Current TONANEESDIZI COUNCIL MEMBER ANGIE WILLIAMS RESPONSE TO LEGISLATION 0388-14 TAKING AWAY TUBA CITYS TAX MONEY. Delegate Katherine Benally This is Angie Williams, Council Member, Council of Natannii, ToNaneesDizi Chapter. I want to know why the Chapter was not informed of this action? We were informed at the 11th hour of this legislation, which should have been shared with the Chapter from the initiating steps of the legislation and reasons pertaining to this. The To’Nanees’Dizi is now fully staffed and is taking action to comply with audit requirements, tax requirements, business site lease requirements, etc. For many years we were told that we could not spend our money nor utilize the funds for public use due to the ongoing investigation and reconciliation caused by the former Chapter Officials and former Administration who were terminated from their jobs and/or removed. This is appalling that your committee has decided to take this action without first consulting the Chapter Officials, the staff and more importantly the community who benefit most from these sales tax dollars. If funds are reverted back to the Navajo Nation there is no guarantee that the Tuba City Chapter nor the surrounding Chapter communities will benefit from fully these funds. As it is now the Navajo Nation Tax Commission only give To’Nanees’Dizi Chapter $64,602 a year. This tells me that if the Navajo Nation takes away To’Nanees’Dizi Sales Tax they will receive millions of dollars which will be dispersed to the 110 Chapters and in return give back the Chapter less than 4%. Actions such as this should be coordinated with Chapters and we as Chapter Officials should be given due diligence prior to pulling the sales tax from Chapter authority. These funds help support most of the communities of Western Agency, not just Tuba City Chapter, and example is the transfer station, the sales tax dollars are fully supported by these funds, not to mention employment for youth employment, public employment and scholarship funds. I request that you invite us, the Chapter Officials when you plant to present this resolution and allow us the opportunity to sit down and explain our situation. To date, no one has given us that respect and/or courtesy. Respectfully submitted Angie Williams, Council of Natannii Member To’Nanees’Dizi Chapter *Katherine Benally is outgoing Council Delegate of Kayenta, Dennehotso and Chilchinbeto Chapters.
