Special Needs Children have been brought up a lot lately and I - TopicsExpress

Special Needs Children have been brought up a lot lately and I have decided to tell you what it is like having a special needs grandson. I could tell there was something different about Jack from the time he was a baby, but no one would tell me. Finally my youngest daughter told me her nephew had Downs Syndrome but my son and daughter-in-law were having a hard time accepting it. From the beginning Jack brought so much love and laughter in to our lives. His Mom has become the very best mother he could ever ask for. His Dad still struggles at times but is a good Daddy. His sister is two years younger than Jack but she has always looked out for her little brother. Most of the time Jack is outside playing and doing all the things other children do, but like other children, he can be very stubborn. Being his Grandmother has always been and always will be one of the most rewarding gifts in my life. He likes to spend one-on-one time with Grandma. We read, play games, play cards, go out to eat, watch movies, or just take naps together. He is so filled with love and is always eager to dance. Music is one of the things he likes best and he learns fast. He will watch others dance and the next thing we know he is doing the same thing. I am thankful he is playing soccer this year and is on the same team as his sister, Mackenzie. Whenever Jack is bad I tell him no or to have time out and he will be very defiant. I look at him and have found the first one to look away loses. He will eventually say, Ok Grandma. I thank God every day for sending us this special boy! He has humbled a few people in our family and he has proven he can do anything any other child can do. Special Needs Children may look a little different from other children, but they are the same as others on the inside. Their medical needs can be numerous. Just get to know the child as a person and they will show you more love than you can imagine! I could never imagine my life without Jack in it! A VERY PROUD GRANDMOTHER
