Special: Purim post The gemara Megilla says a person is required to be bsumei bpuriah until he doesnt know the difference between cursed is Haman and blessed is Mordechai. Bsumei, sharing the same root as bsamim (spices we smell during havdalah), can be translated as sweetness or another translation is to drink. 1. That the sweetness of Purim should be so strong in you that you dont judge others. 2. That you should drink in Purim (bsumei bpuriah = to drink in Purim). Since Purim is about being happy and Jewish unity, you should drink this in to the point that you are not judgmental of others. Have an easy and meaningful fast and Purim Sameach!!! P.S. While there are opinions that translate bsumei as drinking wine, the idea is not to be compared to a college party. Those who drink wine, even in excess, but for a positive purpose are in accordance with the holiday, but those who use the holy holiday of Purim as an excuse to get drunk and act inappropriately, can perhaps be likened to those who ate at Achashverouss meal (which was the cause for the evil decree against the Jewish people).
